Commack School District maintenance, custodial and grounds workers have voted overwhelmingly to join Local 237. The unit includes more than 80 workers. Local 237 Long Island Division Director Ben Carenza explained, “They sought out strong representation, as well as a voice in their own union. We’re happy to welcome them to the Teamster family!” The workers voted out UPSEU for failing to provide them with basic union protections.

Islip Recovery worker Kevin Ouwerkerk was doing his daily rounds in a residential neighborhood when something went terribly wrong. After he emptied a can of trash into the town garbage truck, the load exploded on contact.
